A drive to Chikmangalur.. Stay in Jhari Resorts (February 2013)

A drive to Chikmangalur.. Stay in Jhari Resorts (February 2013)

On occasion of our second anniversary, we were ‘gifted’ with a holiday in Chikmangalur. Anyone who knows me, knows that i love to drive.
Thanks to the awesome traffic situation in Bangalore, i almost hate it now.
But, i will sure as hell, never miss an opportunity to drive on decent roads.

So we headed out early in the morning via Hassan.
The drive was quite peaceful & enjoyable.. and as always we had quite a lot of pit stops for me to indulge in some photography πŸ˜‰
The roads are quite good & the scenery is great as well.

A distance of approximately 250kms, we reached Chikmangalur in around 6 hours.
Funnily, after reaching the area of the resort we did not where to go as the resort folks had told us we would have to park our cars some distance away, as access to the resort was only by a 4X4.
We kinda got lost, roamed around the place for another hour before we found another property that belongs to the same people who run Jhari. So we finally manged to get ourselves found & were thankful as there was no network anywhere.

So reaching out to them was not possible, neither were there any road signs ANYWHERE.
Apparently due to forest conservation & nature activists, no one is allowed to put up sign boards or anything on the roads.
I am very OK with that… anything to preserve the beauty & ecology of this wondrous planet.

I have to be very thankful to the folks at Jhari, they realized we were lost and that there was no reception.. So they kept trying our phones continuously & we happened to get a call from them when we were hopelessly lost and headed in the opposite direction πŸ˜€

So we parked my car in the other property, they took us in a Bolero.
And they were right, it is quite difficult as the roads leading to the resort are gravel, steeply inclined & only 180 degree hairpin turns.

We were greeted there by the manager, Suresh, who immediately took us to our room.
The place is absolutely stunning. The room was very spacious & clean.
And they probably knew it was our anniversary, so the entire room was decorated with petals and flowers.

NO fan, NO A/C, NO TV, NO Network, NO Internet πŸ™‚
So if you feel you have a deep seated need for any of the above, you will not enjoy your holiday here.
Personally for me it was very satisfactory, though Niki wouldn’t have minded have a TV or something around.

The room has huge windows, almost the size of the wall itself.
Right in front of the room a stream flows…
All day long you can hear the gentle gargling noises of the stream… and in some way it’s very calming..Β  takes you in to a meditative mood.
Beyond the stream are dense woods, where we happened to spot a few monkeys and birds..

The quality of the food here was quite good, filling & very homely.
The staff too are very humble & are there to help you with anything you may need.

One definite member of the party at Jhari was Bheema.. this totally adorable Labrador.
He was with us where ever we went, would sleep outside our room all the time.
There was something really special about him… well, i think i say that about all dogs πŸ™‚

This was not a very long stay, just 2 nights, so we did not really go out of the resort anywhere as the weather was too hot & the resort was too peaceful to think about stepping out.

The main attraction here is a Colossal Waterfall.
Very very beautiful, has a small pond where Bheema loved to swim and play around.

BLOG-DSC_WLP_-13Laa La La Laa anyone?

There are the usual indoor games like carrom, archery, etc.

So we basically spent our holiday totally relaxing, staring out into the wilderness and just being lazy. I love to do just that πŸ™‚
